Capitol hears collectors: We can keep our sleeves!

by Dave Haber, What Goes On Managing Editor

On Thursday, What Goes On Beatles news was the first to bring you Capitol's official announcement of their return policy for Capitol Albums Vol. 2.

At that time, we advised collectors not to jump on the return offer, because Capitol's official stated policy was that fans would return their discs with their original sleeves, and in that collectors might be worried that their sleeves would be damaged in transit, Capitol might be persuaded to change this part of the policy.

We can now report that the recorded announcement on the phone number you call at Capitol Records now says that the original sleeves for the returned discs will NOT be required.

The recording now says you will be asked for the name of the store where you purchased the set, your name, phone number, and full address, and you will be sent a return packet with instructions to return (quoting here from the recording) "your bare discs and proof of purchase", and that revised discs would be returned to you in the mail.

This is good news for all the loyal Beatles fans who purchased the new Capitol Albums Vol. 2 on the first day.

[thanks to WGO reader Robbie who tipped us off about this update!]
