Help! actor passes away at 93 [Posted by Dave Haber on Tuesday, 10/21/08 9:36 am] [Full Blog] [Digg This] A British actor who worked with everyone from Sir Laurence Olivier to The Beatles in a career that spanned eight decades passed away a few weeks ago on October 7, leaving behind a wealth of performances in his 70 years on stage and screen. Peter Copley as the jeweller in Help! Peter Copley starred in more than 100 films and some of England's favorite TV programs, including Doctor Who, The Saint and The Avengers. Peter had a short but very memorable role as the jeweller in the Beatles film Help! He came to the attention of Help! director Richard Lestor, when he appeared in the film Lester made before Help!, The Knack... And How To Get It. Peter with the Beatles in Help! British writer and broadcaster Richard Hope-Hawkins said, "Peter Copley was simply the last surviving actor from that remarkable period when he began his training as a student in the 1930's, having worked alongside right from the beginning of his career a veritable who's who of truly great actors. "To me and I'm sure others he will rank as a great character actor, relied upon mainly in supporting roles but establishing his acting abilities equally in all of his roles he portrayed, admired by his fellow actors."
