May Pang greets crowd at book signing in New Jersey

May Pang gave a brief overview and highlights at a crowded booksigning about the story of the photos she took during her 18 months spent with John Lennon that have been published in her new book, "Instamatic Karma: Photographs of John Lennon", last weekend at the Clifton, New Jersey, Barnes and Noble bookstore, just minutes from the 2008 Fest for Beatles Crown Plaza hotel.

Her new book dispels the "Lost Weekend" myth that John was unhappy or "lost" when he was with her. The photos show John enjoying life with May and John's friends and loved ones and May said John had encouraged her to take pictures of him using her Kodak camera. She displayed several enlarged pictures taken of John published in the book and discussed when each picture was taken and the circumstances surrounding the photo.

Pictures of John's friends such as Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr are included. She discussed that Paul was a frequent visitor and that when John first started seeing Paul again, he picked up his friendship with Paul where they left off, as if they hadn't stopped seeing each other because of the Beatles breakup.

May revealed that John and she "fled NYC" to Los Angeles to get away from Harry Nillson who was having an adverse affect on John because of Nillson's excessive partying, and so John could continue work on his new album.

She talked about the time that John was pacing back and forth at the airport waiting for Julian to arrive after not having seen Julian for 4 years since John had left England for New York City. She didn't take any pictures of their reunion but said it was very emotional for them.

May was particularly proud of having taken a picture of John that he used for the picture sleeve for the UK "Imagine" single that was released on her birthday.
